Intergalactic worlds' faster than light travel tearing the Universe apart?

Did advancement of life develop faster than light travel with unintended consequences of rapidly expanding space?

If so, why didn't they stop exploration once realizing what they had done?

Did this action extend the life of the universe, or did it forever prevent the return to nothingness?
